About MUST University Accreditation

My son is an academician and today he taught me something new. Something I never knew in my twenty-five years of experience in the realm of academics. Today I learnt about international accreditation.

He mentioned online universities and quoted a single example: that of MUST University. Being closely involved with academia, the first question I had in my mind was that of accreditation. From experience, I know that accreditation is what makes or breaks a university and naturally I was curious. As it turns out, MUST is fully accredited by the International Accreditation Organization (IAO), one of the leading bodies that offer international accreditation to online institutions.

This shook some of the basic foundations I had about accreditation. In my time there was only national and regional accreditation. Yet, as he went on, I learnt that a new concept was emerging – that of international accreditation. This is what online universities strive for. For them, national and regional accreditation is a redundant concept. Why, I asked? If you play on a national or regional scale, only then would you need national or regional level accreditation, don’t you think? If you are global, why would you want to restrict yourself? Makes sense, ah?

Turns out, it’s never too late to learn.
